Please note: We do not see people with Type 1 Diabetes.

Managing my Diabetes

In type 2 Diabetes, your body can no longer control your blood glucose levels.  Your body uses insulin to help to control your blood glucose.  In type 2 diabetes, your insulin stops working as it should and so blood glucose levels can increase.

Your insulin can stop working if you become overweight – especially if you gain weight around your middle.  It can also stop working if you have too little muscle on your body from lack of exercise.  The foods you eat can also put your insulin under pressure when it comes to controlling your blood glucose levels.  We will work with you to help find the right foods to help to control your blood glucose.  We will also talk to you about managing your weight if you are overweight and about building some exercise into your daily life.
